Artist’s Note: On the Transduction of Visual Experience into Music

 

While the union of visual and auditory senses in art has long been explored through the lens of synesthesia, the structural reconstruction of these elements—moving beyond mere subjective impressions—represents a distinct conceptual shift. My recent reflections on this process can be summarized as follows:

Symmetry as Invariance If traditional symmetry focused on balance or static correspondence within a two-dimensional plane, a modern perspective redefines it as "invariance":

the property of a system that remains unchanged throughout a process of transformation.

• Mapping and Conserved Quantities: Mapping presupposes symmetry, but its success hinges on which "conserved quantities" one chooses to preserve.

• Multidimensional Perception: Symmetry is a multidimensional concept. Once this is grasped, both visual and conceptual perception are radically altered. Even conceptual contrasts change when one understands the multidimensional symmetrical structures that deploy "sememes"—fundamentally transforming the world of synonyms and antonyms.

• Cognitive Expansion: This is, in essence, an expansion of cognition. Due to the inherent dimensional constraints and topological differences of each sense, the mapping required for multi-sensory art cannot form a simple, linear 1:1 correspondence.

 

Visual art does not simply dissipate into music; through auditory form, it acquires a new mode of existence that was impossible within its original dimensions. At this point of emergence, the artist transcends the role of a designer to become a mediator of flows, witnessing a new world born at the very moment boundaries collapse.
