Fine art photographer BHANG Youngmoon invites viewers to contemplate the nature of perception

Through his latest series of abstract photographs,

fine art photographer BHANG Youngmoon invites viewers

to contemplate the nature of perception and consciousness.

Drawing inspiration from Buddhist teachings and philosophy, BHANG Youngmoon explores the complex interplay between recognition and non-recognition, being and nothingness, and existence and absence. His works offer a unique perspective on the way our cognition forms tautological correspondence structures, while also challenging the limits of logical and scientific reasoning.

At the core of BHANG Youngmoon's photography lies a tension between reductive structures and the desire to go beyond them. While his works are based on a kind of reductive structure, BHANG Youngmoon is not a reductionist. Instead, he sees consciousness and mind as beginning with the principle of a new layer formed by a complex system beyond the critical point. By temporarily suspending the act of recognition, his art aims to offer a new way of looking at the world, one that goes beyond conventional modes of understanding.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is BHANG Youngmoon's series titled <Contemplative Contemplation - the sense of suññata>, offering a unique and thought-provoking perspective on the concept of nibbāna (nirvana).

The centerpiece of the exhibition is BHANG Youngmoon's series titled <Contemplative Contemplation - the sense of suññata>, offering a unique and thought-provoking perspective on the concept of nibbāna (nirvana). This collection of photographs offers a reverse engineering of nibbāna(nirvana), based on the 'Mahasatipaṭṭhāna Sutta - The Great Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness' in one of the early Buddhist scriptures. Through a range of photographic techniques and styles, BHANG Youngmoon expresses his impressions of this teaching with modern scientific language and perspectives. This exhibition challenges us to consider the true nature of existence and the role of consciousness in shaping our perception of reality.
